PEPPINA PLAYS NYC FOR THE FIRST TIME AT ROCKWOOD MUSIC HALL

Thanks to the enigmatic and unwavering energy of actor/producer Joseph Gordon-Levitt, pretty much everyone who isn’t living under a rock is up to speed on his production company hitRECord. A conglomeration of contributors near and far help curate and produce content for the site, and one contributor that has notably turned a few heads is Peppina, a Finland based singer-songwriter.

Her first-ever show in NYC was Thursday night at Rockwood Music Hall, and I’d call it a rousing success. Fans and “hitRECorders” milled around the venue patiently waiting for the show to start, and passers-by trickled in filling the room as Peppina was well into her performance. Holding the attention of a NY crowd is a feat in itself, and she managed to pull it off with her songs – bounding with playfulness, whimsy and wanderlust.

Selections included the spirited ukulele ditty “Lo Siento Juan,” Mademoiselle Noir” – that instantly transported me to a sidewalk café in the middle of Paris, “Follow Your Gravity,” – which is also the name of her new EP, and the most popular record of the night, “We Could Go Back Again,” that incited a sing-a-long similar to the one held in Los Angeles on live TV during Gordon-Levitt’s sensational show, “hitRECord on TV.”

Peppina may have gotten her big break through that site, but she’s poised to breakout on her own path. I could easily see her music used in music and television soundtracks, and I look forward to seeing where her music will take her next.
