OH LAND PLAY THE MUSIC HALL OF WILLIAMSBURG

Miniskirt season is back and what a better to celebrate on a Friday night at Music Hall of Williamsburg with, Oh Land!

Danish singer/songwriter, Nanna Øland Fabricius, best known as Oh Land – made her US musical debut in 2008, with the very catchy tune,  Sun of a Gun and has been singing since the young age of 22. After her US debut, her musical career skyrocketed and she began opening for renowned artists like Sia (girl crush status!) and Katy Perry.

Oh Land has released a total of 4 popular albums and even went platinum in Denmark for , Oh Land, released in 2011. It’s crazy to think that the once ballerina, is actually a triple threat; sing-songwriter, record producer, and actress. “Earth Sick” has been the most recent album and was recorded in her apartment in Brooklyn and crowdfunded through Plegdemusic; recieving great reviews and had “Head Up High” premiered on Nylon Magazine’s website. Head Up High, is the summer dance track that’ll motivate you on those sluggish days.

Onstage, Oh Land has the adorable presence of the manic pixie dream girl, inviting you to her colorful world with her band rocking pastel hairstyles; they all donned white outfits. Oh Land had such a fun show, as her music has evolved from formulative pop songs to deeper, rich lyrics along to electro beats; you can tell she really loves what she does. Talking about how Brooklyn has completely captured her heart (as she has ours) and having moments with her audience, Oh Land is most definitely an artist you need to catch.

“Earth Sick” completely won me over; she has this soft, nurturing voice that can make almost anyone swoon. Just as some songs of hers are melancholic, the others have an electro-infused power, that motivate you to kick ass and keep moving forward; like “Renaissance Girls” has a Beyoncé -” Girls Run The World” feel, expressing the beautiful change that women are experiencing a “we can do that too” attitude.
