PANCAKE PICKS: BEST SHOWS OF THE WEEK FOR 6-8

Wow, how much fun was Governors Ball?! Now that’s behind us, we look ahead to a crazy week of shows highlighted by the ever growing Northside Festival! Here our are Pancake Picks – Best Shows Of The Week, via doNYC for 6-8-15.

Tuesday

Algiers @ Mercury LoungeHitting the road all throughout the month of June to support their recently released self-titled debut album, Algiers’ very old school sound is almost reminiscent of early blues music sung in the delta and plantations.

Walking Shapes @ Baby’s All Right – The Walking Shapes are the type of band you must see live to appreciate. With non-stop energy and a fantastic selection of songs, this will be a great show.

Wednesday

The Dø @ Bowery Ballroom – The indie-electro pop duo from France brings their own indie rock sound and mixes it with electronic and new wave influences that earned them the Rock Album of the Year at the French Grammys.

Buddy Guy @ BB King’s – With B.B. King’s passing recently, it was a solemn reminder that there are few artists still with us who have really helped shaped music history. Buddy Guy is one of the very few musicians from that era who are still killing it on stage most nights. As part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival taking place this week, try to make time for yourself to see one of the early pioneers of rock music while you still can.

Thursday

Pancakes and Whiskey Northside Showcase @ Union Pool The gang here at P&W always knows how to throw a party. For our only Northside showcase, we’re bringing local rock powerhouses Cultfever and The Midnight Hollow along a few other killer artists to throw a great party to help start your weekend early. There may or may not be some free and/or discounted Jameson Irish Whiskey drinks for a limited time so get there early!

Friday

Harmonic Blue + Bears and Company @ Pianos – Harmonic Blue, out of Baltimore sounds a bit like The Police, but with a new edge. Bears And Company’s three-month U.S. tour makes a stop in NYC on Friday. Their alternative rock sound is based around loud guitar fueled, in your face rock and brings a refreshing rock sound to a NYC scene overrun with hipster rock.

Drenge @ The Knitting Factory – As part of the Northside Festival, this show with support from Made Violent will be a high energy, in your face rock show with no frills, just how we like it!

Saturday & Sunday

Northside Festival – Over the past few years, Northside Festival has established itself as the premier summer kickoff event for those of us who focus so heavily on the NYC music scene, especially in Brooklyn with so many changes taking places with venues opening and closing. Not quite as big as the very similar local music marathon monster that CMJ has become, Northside Festival still brings great showcases, exposing great emerging local artists across the L train line and of course has a great outoor concert at McCarren Park featuring some of the hottest indie rock, electronic, and hip hop acts in music including Neko Case, Zola Jesus, Run The Jewels, Alvvays, and more! Make sure to make your rounds throughout the weekend, and keep your eye out as you may find yourself in some of the live Whiskey Sessions we’ll be shooting throughout Brooklyn!
