MAD SATTA PLAYS DROM

You can live forever in New York City and still bump into new places and attend new shows and be surprised at how you’ve missed out on something amazing. Our Thursday night was spent at Drom, a gypsy themed lounge that offers shows from jazz to funk and reggae. It has a sultry, speakeasy vibe with an attractive, fun crowd; you can easily find yourself dancing to the good vibes the bands had.

Seeing Quincy Vidal was refreshing, mixing all types of genres from jazz and funk, to hip hop beats, this band has something special happening for them. Their energy did not wither and intensified the crowd’s energy with danceable, infectious lyrics and tunes. The crowd sang and danced along with such a tenderness that has ever been witnessed.

Next up was the very awesome Mad Satta, the 8 piece funk jazz soul group; celebrating their newly released EP “Break Me.” Mad Satta’s sound complimented Drom’s red dimly lit space so very well with funky guitar riffs, powerful sax solos, and louder than ever drums. Joanna’s voice made all these roaring instruments mix wonderfully with her endearing stage presence and her soulful voice. They began their set with a very funky tune called “Break Me Free” and with a voice like Joanna Teters, there is no other. Behind that sultry sweet voice, there’s a a soulful sound that meshes well with the sexy sax and trumpets. Looking at the crowd around us, you can tell that everyone was loving the set. Besides seeing the band on stage I think my favorite part is seeing the audience; either they’re deep into the music or dancing with friends – it’s always great to see the fun and positive energy at a show.
