MARITIME WEATHERS THE STORM AT ROUGH TRADE

With Hurricane Joaquin looming, the weather was quite rude this past Friday, but that didn’t stop the crowd at Rough Trade from bringing the type of enthusiasm that resembled a collegiate bar crowd ready for the weekend. “This is some Godzilla shit,” vocalist/guitarist Davey von Bohlen joked before assuring the crowd that they were in Brooklyn and Godzilla only destroyed bridges in Manhattan.  Maritime’s cheery set easily brought the feeling of summer to a stormy October night as Von Bohlen bumped fists with fans throughout the show, sipping beer and bantering with his bandmates between songs.

The setlist offered the audience an early peek at several tracks off their upcoming album Magnetic Bodies/Maps of Bones, such as “Satellite Love,” “Light You Up,” and “Roaming Empire.” The new material hinted at a solid album, featuring catchy synth riffs, interesting tones from guitarist Dan Hinz’s badass pedal setup, and some intricate back beats from drummer Dan Didier.  The show was a mix of the old and the new, containing an enjoyable variety of sounds from the mellow and melodic to danceable indie rock.
