BETTY WHO & VÉRITÉ HAD WEBSTER HALL BOUNCING

After some shows at SXSW last month, Betty Who kicked off the tour for her sophomore album, The Valley at a sold out Webster Hall Friday night. She was supported by Brooklyn based Vérité.

Vérité is out promoting her soon to be released debut album Somewhere In Between. I caught Vérité back in 2014 at the now defunct CMJ New Music Marathon at Brooklyn Bowl and I was anxious to see her this night. She was more comfortable and confident since then. She played some European dates before kicking off her US tour with Betty Who. I’m happy to see her packing larger venues and know it won’t be long before she’s headlining her own tour.

Australian born Betty Who got that Webster Hall floor bouncing. The dance-pop diva was flanked by two male dancers who helped get the predominantly LGBT crowd in the mood. Who, aka Jessica Newham, is touring to support her recently released sophomore album The Valley. This new album contains the hits “Some Kinda Wonderful,” “Human Touch,” and a cover of the 1996 Donna Lewis hit “I Love You Always Forever.” Who welcomed some family members in attendance for this show, before retuning her guitar to do an acoustic solo of “California Rain.” If you’d like to see her, her tour heads back to Brooklyn in September.
