PANCAKE PICKS: THE BEST SHOWS OF THE WEEK FOR 2-12-18

Whether you’re ready to fall in love with a new band, or just want to impress your Valentine with your taste in local shows, it’s a good week to be hip to what’s happening in NYC’s music scene. Go head over heels at a cool concert this week with the help of our Pancake Picks below.

Monday

Max Pain and the Groovies @ Baby’s All Right – Brooklyn is the place to start your week if you’re looking to hear some garage rock tonight. Max Pain and the Groovies will be making some welcome noise at Baby’s All Right, with local rockers Jane Church, Coco Verde, and Datenight sharing the bill.

Tuesday

Sleigh Bells, Sunflower Bean @ BK Steel – Clear Tuesday night on your calendar and make your way over to Brooklyn Steel, because there’s a really nice combo in store with local noise pop duo, Sleigh Bells, and NYC rock outfit, Sunflower Bean (who wowed us at Public Arts a few weeks ago) taking the stage.

First Aid Kit @ Beacon Theatre – Much-loved Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit are playing the Beacon this Tuesday night, hot off the release of their new full-length record, Ruins. They’ll be joined by LA singer Val William, who’s also out with a new full-length, Countries, and will open the show at 7pm.

Wednesday

The Wailers @ Brooklyn Bowl – For a feel-good date destination this Valentine’s Day, look no further than Brooklyn Bowl, where the legendary Wailers will be bringing the love after an opening set from Kwame Binea Shakedown. And if you’re saving funds for chocolate and flowers, there’s still time to win a pair of free tickets here.

Annual Village of Love Benefit @ Music Hall of Williamsburg –Your Valentine won’t be the only one swooning if you put your money toward MHOW’s annual Village of Love show, which raises much-needed funds for Planned Parenthood each Valentine’s Day. Not only will you be supporting a great cause, but you’ll have a jam-packed lineup to groove to all the while, including The Lemon Twigs, Shilpa Ray, Bush Tetras, April March, Fiona Silver, and a whole bunch more.

Thursday

MAGIC GIANT @ The Bowery Ballroom – If you’re a fan of indie folk, don’t snooze on Thursday night’s lineup at The Bowery Ballroom. You can catch LA’s MAGIC GIANT, who put out their newest LP, The Wind, last year. Fellow Cali alt/indie band The Brevet will be kicking things off at 8:30pm.

Ruth B., Hailey Knox @ LPR – Canadian pop singer Ruth B. will be performing in the intimate digs of Le Poisson Rouge this week, and fans in attendance can expect to hear songs from her debut record, Safe Haven, with which she made a splash last year. She’ll be joined by another much-loved songstress, Hailey Knox, who, as we can attest, puts on an excellent set.

Friday

X Ambassadors @ BK Steel –  It’s a fine time to catch New York’s own X Ambassadors, who just unveiled a new single, “Don’t Stay,” and a new music video for “Joyful” (below) just weeks ago. Minnesota indie rock duo Now, Now will be getting the party started at 7pm – and you can enter to win free tickets here.

Saturday

Galactic, Rubblebucket, Butcher Brown @ BK Steel – You may have to make several trips out to BK Steel this week, because there are some really solid grooves in store this Saturday. With a triple-threat lineup of New Orleans funk heroes, Galactic, Virginia jazz ensemble Butcher Brown, and a longtime P&W fave, Rubblebucket, it’s sure to be a blast. Best of luck, because you’ll want to enter to win a free pair of tickets for this one.

Sunday

Bunny Michael @ Rough Trade – Celebrating the imminent release of her new EP, Afterlyfe, this Valentine’s Day, Insta-famed visual artist and rapper Bunny Michael will be performing live in Brooklyn this weekend. Make your way to Rough Trade on Sunday to get a taste of the psychedelic journey she’s been cooking up.
