This past weekend, July 25-27, the Newport Folk Festival was held at Fort Adams in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island.
This year marked the festival’s 55th year and it is best known historically for the place where Bob Dylan first went electric in the States. In the past 55 years, this festival has had some great line-ups but this year was considered to be one of its best. With 3 main stages and over 50 bands/artists to perform, there was never a down time for music and the attendees were able to move from stage to stage without ever fighting the crowd. Offering such intimate crowd sizes, festival goers were able to see artists like Jack White, Ryan Adams, and Jeff Tweedy without the giant crowds and were just surrounded by music lovers who are there to watch and experience music and not just party like most other current big name festivals. The Newport Folk Festival is a special place and should be used to model every festival out there. With all of the shows being during the day time, each days headliners were done by sunset, it makes sure to keep you in place and remember that you are there for the music and music alone.
