SCARS ON 45 PLAY MERCURY LOUNGE

After being away in The Bahamas for a week I was dying so catch a live show. Scars On 45 filled that void when they played Mercury Lounge Wednesday night. Don’t get me wrong. The Bahamas was beautiful and all, but there’s not much of a live music scene. Scars On 45 was playing the late show and when I arrived, the bar was still buzzing from the early show. The sound guy threw in Otis Redding’s Greatest Hits which kept everyone happy waiting for the set to begin.

Opening the show was LA’s Broken Anchor, aka, Austin Hartley-Leonard. The current band consists of only him, his guitar and his “Fake Robot Band”: shit he bought on Craigslist that he’s not really sure how to use. I don’t think so. He’s definitely used this stuff before!

Lucky for us, we were able to hear Austin play with a real band because he stayed on stage and played guitar with Scars On 45. The melodic indie band out of Bradford, England played all the hits from their self-titled debut album. A couple of these songs have been featured on the TV shows; CSI: New York and Grey’s Anatomy. At one point they hopped off stage and played a song from the middle of the crowd to the delight of their fans. In addition to their own songs, the covered The Cure’s “Friday I’m In Love”.
