Late Friday night I ended up at Baby’s All Right for the late show featuring Hunters. As soon as I got there I thought “This could be a mistake” as the place was packed like I had never seen it before. It took me a solid ten minutes to make it to the front of the stage area and when I did it was littered with beer bottles and my feet stuck to the floor. When I did settle in, I found myself among fellow photographers at the center of the stage and caught the last of Calvin Love’s breezy set.
By the time Hunters took the stage at midnight, you couldn’t of fit another body on to the floor and as soon as the music started the place went off. It was like holding a couple hundred kids cooped up in a mini-van for a cross country trip and when you pull into the fast food place, all shit breaks loose…it was like that but more violent. Hunters is a band that will make you want to shove your neighbor and flip the fuck out, and that’s just what most of the place did for the 45 minute set of blistering punk/garage rock. Lead singer/guitarist Isabel Almeida was a constant blur of a woman who captivated the entire room while barely acknowledging them. The moshing and crowd surfing was out of control with a large circle taking up most of the center of the room but it all seemed to fit perfectly with the raging music.
OBN iii’s took the stage next and pretty went the fuck off and let everyone know, in no uncertain terms, that they were pissed off because some asshole stole some merch from them. Finally at 1:40am Purling Hiss grabbed their guitars and blasted the room for the remainder of the night. At this point the music melded into each other and the only thing that stood out was the insane guitar playing of one Mike Polizze who is an absolute shred master.
