CAPITAL CITIES HAVE A DANCE PARTY AT WEBSTER HALL

With Halloween spirits in the air, people were in a partying mood leading up to the weekend. Perfect timing for Capital Cities to bring their electro-pop tunes to the city for a packed dance party at Webster Hall on Thursday. The duo brought their live band consisting of live guitar, drums, and a rocking horn player to handle trumpet solos with swing and swagger.

As the group performed songs off their debut full-length album In A Tidal Wave of Mystery, you could really feel the energy coming from both singers. Their style of live performing along with the exceptional horn playing of Spencer Ludwig makes you feel like you’re listening to more of a modern funk or electro-soul style of music, as opposed to the electro-pop feel the album carries. The band really performed their songs with those older funk foundations in mind with style and musical ease the whole night. That retro sound with most evident during the group’s revamped cover of the Beegees’ “Stayin’ Alive” midway through the set.

With Sebu and Ryan lead the energy-filled show the entire night. Although having to dodge the array of glow sticks flying through the air all over the place, the two singers gave a stellar performance singing together as a unit. Singing all the hits from the album including “Patience Gets Us Nowhere Fast”, “Kangaroo Cout”, and ending with FM-friendly hit “Safe and Sound”, the group made clear that they were going to be the ones getting New Yorkers to start celebrating Halloween weekend early.
