VILLAGE VOICE’S 2ND ANNUAL HOLIDAY SPIRITS!

Baby, it’s getting cold outside! The best way to warm up is to join in on the fun with Village Voice’s 2nd Annual Holiday Spirit’s Tasting Event featuring an array of 25 and more beverages from distilleries, wineries, and so much more from New York City!!

This event is certainly not to be missed, it’s being held on a Hornblower Infinity Cruise Ship; which is known to hold the most extravagant and amazing parties in NYC. You’ll be able to taste and sip on signature winter themed cocktails for the cold season along with great music. So grab a date or an awesome friend to share this exciting experience with and enjoy all the surprises that Village Voice has to offer. From whiskey to tequila, you can taste different spirits that have been created in our beloved city and what a better way to stay warm during the holiday season. We hope to see you there before Wham’s “Last Christmas” gets stuck in your head!

We were able to talk with Christina Pettit, who handles marketing & events for the Village Voice to talk about what makes the Holiday Spirits Cruise so awesome.

P&W: There are a handful of ‘booze cruises’ and party boats throughout the city, especially during the holiday season. What really makes the Village Voice Holiday Spirits Cruise stand out from them as a unique event?
Christina: As with each Village Voice event, we try to bring in some of the best artisans from New York City and beyond that are producing products that are highest in their craft. At Holiday Spirits, guests will have the opportunity to whet their palates with sips from 25+ distilleries and wineries from locally esteemed Brooklyn Gin, White Pike Whiskey, Brooklyn Winery, Atsby Vermouth and many more while snacking on complimentary hors d’oeuvres. We’ll also have the live 1920′-esque Blue Vipers of Brooklyn live jazz quartet and DJ Tim Martell providing music to shake your tail feather to.

P&W: Can  you talk about how you decided on which spirits you wanted to bring on board for the event. Do most of them come from local distilleries and wineries? Was it important to bring on local NYC companies?
Christina: Yes, most are local distilleries and wineries from the tri-state area but we didn’t want to exclude some extraordinary spirits by being geographically limited so there are some other spirits that will be featured as well! You’ll find Art in the Age Craft Spirits from Philadelphia that will be serving a range of their fantastic Root, Snap, and Sage liquor cocktails alongside Red Hook, Brooklyn’s own Van Brunt Stillhouse who will be pouring a Moonshine Moonlight Mule.

P&W: Village Voice has been throwing exciting entertainment events like the Holiday Spirits Cruise as well as 4Knots Music Festival. Is one of Village Voice’s goals to grow and develop as a lifestyle brand rather than just a media outlet?
Christina: The Village Voice produces several annual events including 4Knots Music Festival plus a craft beer festival, Brooklyn Pour, two food tasting events, Choice Eats which highlights restaurants we review and Choice Streets which features food trucks, and the Obie Awards which celebrate Off Broadway theater. Our goal is to align these events with what we cover in the paper and our blogs – outstanding food, drink, music and the arts.

P&W: What advice would you give a novice spirits taster heading into this event?
Christina: Pace yourself, chat with the producers of these handmade liquors to get in the spirit, grab some snacks which will be featured on each of the three decks of the ship, and don’t be late! The ship will be setting sail at 7:30pm sharp – if you’re late, you will literally miss the boat! Each guest will receive a checklist that you can mark your favorites on as you sip throughout the night! Stop in the Photo Booth and grab some props for a quick photoshoot with your friends, visit Rums of Puerto Rico on the Mid Deck at the “It’s Rum Time” bar for a taste of their specialty rums and then head all the way up to to the top deck to check out the Slow & Low Lounge to unwind.

P&W: Heading into its second year, do you feel the Holiday Spirits Cruise is gaining traction as a holiday event New Yorkers can really look forward to?
Christina: We’re excited to host Holiday Spirits a bit earlier this year to kick off the holiday season on the Hornblower Infinity Cruise Ship. The event will feature the same merriment as last year but with a new twist this year – setting sail around the NY Harbor with some of the best distilleries, wineries and more to keep you in good spirits. We are looking forward to it and hope you are too – cheers!
