An Evening with Bulleit Bourbon and NOBLE Denim

“Take a look inside the bag sitting in front of you, and you will find your personalized barrel aged jeans.” Man, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that, I’d have about one dollar. These were the very words that Master of Whiskey Stephen Wilson spoke to a select few and myself last week at The Wayland in the East Village.

You see, a few months back NOBLE Denim Jeans and Bulleit Whiskey decided to team up on something that seemed a little borderline crazy. What happens when you put a pair of jeans in a barrel of Bulleit Bourbon and age them for a few months? Well, nobody really seemed to know but, “Why the hell not?” Said NOBLE Denim founder Chris Sutton. Now that’s a kind of philosophy we can get behind!

As I entered the Wayland and looked around, I knew I was with my people. If Brad Pitt and Ron Swanson had a baby, it would have been this event. Beards were a plenty, drinks were strong and there were lots of talks of building shelves. I was in a room full of gentlemen.

The night started with some whiskey sipping and mingling as we all got acquainted with each other. Once we had a warm whiskey coat on, it was time for NOBLE founder Chris Sutton to say a few words. If you’re not familiar with NOBLE denim, that’s no surprise. With only 200 pairs made last year, NOBLE specializes in creating #smalbatch jeans each made with care and responsibility. It was so refreshing to hear Chris talk as he shared his plans for the future. There are very few passionate people left like Chris, and talking with him for 30 seconds, it becomes evident.

Next up was Master of Whiskey Stephen Wilson. Let me tell you a little bit about Stephen. This guy loves his work. I wish I loved anything as much as he loves whiskey. He walked us through three different Bulleit Bourbons, the next being even more delicious than the last. He compared Bulleit to his favorite pair of jeans. It’s a whiskey he’s comfortable with, and it’s his go-to when ordering. After tasting our whiskeys it was time to feast! We ate like kings and washed it all down with some smooth Bulleit Bourbon.
