The Adventures of the Silver Spaceman are not your average NASA enthused music-junkies. The sound expelled from frontman Zach is its own g-force and it sucks any listener in with its lighthearted life/death tango. That was especially present at their recent album release at the Cake Shop with Sir Kn8 and Slop Wop, Breakfast in Fur and Landmarks. The energy that night was kinetic and got a few girls questioning their sexual allegiance. So, who is The Adventure of the Silver Spaceman? Well, I will answer that for you in time.
TAOTSS is comprised of a quasi-talented bi-gendered grouping with a romantic late sixties folk motif, similar to a blood-red moon hanging low in a small town in Georgia, peppered with a strange comet like flavor that gives gentle ear buds craters. But it doesn’t hurt when the music hits you, so do not worry little space cadet.
TAOTSS is a musicial entity you probably haven’t seen or heard in your entire lifetime. They are pretty “mouth ajar” wild – almost thrash punk- with their television or more appropriately titled “intervision” persona but that doesn’t mean they don’t also exude a loving and almost subdued nature as well. It is indeed a difficult combination to master, so if you need a reference (or if you like to be aghast while slightly turned on) see the band’s unrelenting Walt Whitman-quote spewing, wigged men glittered with dirt, and circular hip gyrations in their newest musical video – “Free Jazz” featuring Sir Kn8 and Fritz Cook released on Capitalist records.
Also, if you are even more interested than previously, which I know you are after having seen that video, you should check out this interview with TAOTSS and the Pretext Social Club. They talk about Canadian ministers, aliens, kool aid among other interesting Matrix quotes.
Recently having been given the gift of a free show I was able to do a bit of life-based research into who this band really was. It was, I admit, a shallow but good hearted desire of mine to find out if they really were as mentally insane as the video that screamed -Screw Your Finite Senses – to its audience had been.
The truth is they are pretty down to earth. Greenpointers is quoted to have said “Prepare yourself for what is hands down the most across-the-map mix Greenpointers has published to date. Really, in what universe could Kool Keith and Nina Simone hit the same kegger?”
Finding a band that manages to call themselves an adventure and a spaceman in one sentence and still manage to be as lyrically diverse without coming from another planet (or being completely bonkers) is not an easy feat; so give the band some credit and download their music on Soundcloud while you’re on your computer at work and listen to the entire thing. It is worth your energy.
A quote from The Adventures of the Silver Spaceman’s ‘Don’t Know Go’ – “Rosie,” which you can download for free here.
“Show me what love means…cause clearly what I see is not real…sexy lady…keeper of the only giving tree…your ovaries are showing me… that the gifts of loving life are for free”
How’s that for a statement on life.
