Well it was around twenty degrees in New York City today, actually it was freezing just about everywhere in the country, which means life goes back to being fucking miserable for the next four months. Exciting news from out west warmed music fan’s hearts around the country however, as Coachella has become the first major festival here in the U.S. to announce their lineup! Like all American festivals it has its hits and misses. The six-day music and arts festival which has become a back-to-back weekend extravaganza may give some hints to who’ll be playing the festival circuit this summer and coming to NYC…
The three headliners include ACDC, who are limping their way through a tour without Malcolm Young and the mischievous Phil Rudd. I’ve never seen ACDC live but they’re definitely on my list of bands to see live before I kick the bucket. Jack White was nothing short of awesome last year at GovBall and apparently Drake is closing out both Sundays.
Each day’s lineup certainly has gems all over the place with Angus & Julia Stone, Cloud Nothing, and Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger coming on strong day 1. And how about Steely Dan coming out of nowhere?? For all you amateurs who were wondering who that old dude was in the new Kanye song that just dropped, Steely Dan is a band, not just one guy. Remember that.
I’m glad to see some War on Drugs, SBTRKT, Clean Bandit, and Radkey will make for a great Saturday. All four of them made their way to NYC this past summer, with War on Drugs headlining Northside Fest, SBTRKT at Central Park SummerStage, Radkey at 4Knots Festival, and we even sat down and talked with Britian’s hottest band in 2014 Clean Bandit before their show at MH of Williamsburg!
If it weren’t for Drake I’d almost say Sunday is the best day with Florence & The Machine, Ryan Adams, St. Vincent, Fitz & The Tantrums, Jenny Lewis, St. Lucia, The Orwells, all making the lord’s day much more tolerable.
