The Suffers bring powerful soul music that once brought smoke filled lounges and clubs to life in the 60s and 70s into 2015 with their new album, Make Some Room. The ten-piece band from Houston perfectly mixes vintage soul, jazz, funk, and some salsa rhythms into their four song EP, which give their fans new original music since 2013.
Throughout the EP you hear those signature sounds that makes up powerful soul from bongos, wah pedals, fiery horn fills, and of course the spine chilling pipes from Kam Franklin. Her range and emotion in her singing immediately turns you on while the lights go out with “Giver,” but gets your adrenaline going full throttle with “Gwan”- which makes you want to grab that someone you’ve been eye-fucking from across the bar all night onto the dance floor.
What I’ve always loved about great soul music is that you can fill it with powerful emotion and sensuality without filling it with any controversial innuendo. It’s the beautiful but classy genre of music and it’s captured perfectly in Make Some Room.
