The female singer-songwriter genre can be an overpopulated genre at times. With numerous venues and coffee shops around the city that tailor to such artists, it can be tough to find someone who stands out among the countless performers trying to make a name for themselves. Those who came out to Mercury Lounge on Monday however got to enjoy listening to the strong, yet angelic music and lyrics by local singer Amy Vachal.
Donning a subtle black top and a cool vintage-looking skirt to act as a backdrop to her Martin guitar, Amy spent the earlier part of the evening singing her heartfelt lyrics from her 2014 release Crinkle Bloom. While going through her set list of songs, Amy showed you could still keep your artwork subtle while portraying powerful lyrical messages at the same time. Anyone who’s heard her recorded material knows she can sing on tape, but even in a live setting her angelic voice and hauntingly beautiful lyrics keep her close following the footsteps of Ingrid Michaelson, Missy Higgins, or Brandi Carlile.
