Six people on a stage the size of Bowery Ballroom’s can sometimes seem a little crowded, especially when there’s a bunch of equipment and shit on stage. That didn’t seem to slow down The Mowgli’s however. The L.A. band was in NYC for the night for their current tour in support of their new album that had come out only two days earlier, Kids In Love. Their up-tempo indie-pop definitely makes for a fun show, and keeps them in company with contemporaries like The Griswolds and Grouplove.
Starting out the night with a mix of the old shit and new shit, the band tore though fan favorites like “Emily,” “You’re Not Alone,” “Bad Dream,” “Whatever Forever,” and my personal favorite “Through The Dark.” Their music consists of those feel-good types of songs you want on your summer playlist, so it’s only appropriate they’re hitting the road as the winter frost begins to melt away. The crowd may have been a little younger, and their music may have been a little more poppy, but that doesn’t mean The Mowgli’s don’t throw a damn fun concert.
