After six years of retiring their name in the music industry, the Florida indie-rockers of Copeland have made a comeback not only with a new album, but also by returning to stages across the U.S, gracing the legendary Gramercy Theatre with their presence last Wednesday night, November 10th.
Accompanied by a string ensemble to truly deliver the beauty and complex melodies of their carefully selected set list, Copeland played better than ever, digging way back in their catalog to their first 2004 full-length album “Beneath Medicine Tree.” The band also incorporated a handful of songs from each descending album, up to their newest release “Ixora,” which came out in October 2014.
As they intertwined faster songs with more mellow tunes, it made the 500-capacity room feel even more intimate, as the stage was illuminated only by Edison light bulbs during quieter songs. Copeland frontman Aaron Marsh stated that the band would indeed come back to play NYC again, however this evening was particularly special, as long time friends in the Texas indie-rock band “Eisley” shared the stage, along with Vancouver group “We Are The City.”
