A week after Coachella announced their lineup and a month or so after Firefly gave their fans an early holiday gift, NYC’s Governor’s Ball Music Festival has joined the party and has announced their lineup. Yeezus himself, The Strokes, The Killers, Beck, and Robyn will make up the big names and headliners at this year’s festival, which takes place June 3-5 at their usual stomping grounds of Randall’s Island Park.
NYC’s backyard music event of the summer also sees a lineup full of great acts that took 2015 by storm and acts that are expected to tour heavily and release new material in 2015. Highlighted artists also on the bill include M83, Of Monsters And Men, CHVRCHES, Father John Misty, Jamie XX, Miguel, Lord Huron, Eagles of Death Metal, Catfish and The Bottlemen, Christine and The Queens, Betty Who, Bob Moses, Elle King, The Knocks, London Souls, and Holly Miranda.
It’s a little surprising that LCD Soundsystem has been left off the lineup. Following last week’s reunion announcement with their Coachella headlining shows as well as a full tour, one would think they would certainly be headlining the biggest festival in their historical headquarters in NYC. Also surprising GovBall has Kanye and The Strokes headlining this year so soon after both acts have already headlined recently, with Kanye in 2013 and The Strokes in 2014.
Speculation will continue if the founders of Coachella have an exclusive agreement with LCD and a few larger acts to play when they bring their event to NYC a few weeks later following Gov Ball. No news or updated have been confirmed on that event in weeks.
