The electronic music scene has evolved from an underground subculture that was popularized by clubs like The Warehouse to a mainstream music genre that rewards progressive house DJs who collaborate with pop musicians. To be fair the blending of the genres has exposed many to a sound they never would have experienced, but everything about the scene is bigger- the stages, the crowds, the entry fees. Today, small venues and intimate experiences are a novelty.
As someone who has been in the house scene since the 1990s, Cedric Gervais knows how to deliver a memorable set and he did so Friday night at Lavo Nightclub. The French DJ and producer played over two hours for a full house. He revived old tracks and wove them in new and invigorating ways. The smooth transitions and mixed format was well received by the mixed crowd.
Remarkably, instead of snapping selfies and filming snaps, the patrons danced through the entire set. Gervais conducted the set like a seasoned professional. And when crowd began to reach its boiling point, he pulled out the CO2 gun and doused the partiers with cool air.
Cedric Gervais fans have been waiting for new music, since his remix successes “Summertime Sadness” with Lana Del Rey and “Adore You” with Miley Cyrus. Gervais tested his new track “With You” that will be officially released on March 7th and the crowd went nuts. The steady crescendo to a blistering drop mixed with catchy lyrics by Jack Wilby will make the song a summer hit on the festival circuit.
