“I tipped the boat again, left me broken on shore,” sings Everest Cale’s Brett Treacy, in a turn of words that shows how the most subtle actions can have tidal waves of consequences. It’s serious stuff, but we’ve all been there – and that’s why this song manages to sound so soothing and strong in spite of the sinking ship.
Even if we’d just smashed into the shore, we’d be excited to premiere Everest Cale’s brand new single, “Was I Wrong.” The Brooklyn band (who were in fact named “Brooklyn’s Least Brooklyn Band” by Interview Magazine) bare all in this acoustic folk rock track, which, even in title, is not afraid to ask some tough questions. As he puts together the pieces, each word has a special weight in Treacy’s deep baritone, and it all culminates in the type of raw vocal impact that’s sure to get a big crowd clapping.
P.S. A Brooklyn crowd will be doing just that tonight. You can catch this new song and much more from Everest Cale at the Knitting Factory this evening.
