This gorgeous song premiere by Tammy immediately entrances us with hushed guitar and the line – “Traveled on horseback to get, under your skin.” That line, while striking, is just the beginning of a four-minute adventure of love, loss and the need to get away from it all. The lyrics that are sung beautifully, wash over us like a warm blanket on a stormy night while the soothing guitar and minimal percussion is like a big inviting mug of Hot Toddy. The Brooklyn band really hits the mark with this hushed single and now we can’t wait for more music from Tammy while we get away for the weekend.
“‘Away’ is one of the first songs we ever played together. When we would play it at shows we’d always say we were playing our future hit single…and, well here it is coming out. Hope it’s a hit! In the Tammy repertoire, we break most of our songs down into the categories of love songs, hate songs, and songs about making out.. this one, written before we conceived of those designations, doesn’t fit so neatly into any one of them. The subject is in love but it’s a hopeless kind of love, and in the end we don’t get the feeling that it’s come to fruition…” – Tammy
