Singer Giselle Bellas, who you may remember from her feature in Louis C.K.’s Emmy-winning series, Louie, has just released a beautiful new single and video that we’re proud to premiere on Pancakes & Whiskey today.
The new work, “Hazy Eyes,” was written for her late grandmother who struggled with Alzheimer’s disease, and pushes the artist’s bright vocals to a soothing, somber place. The video, filmed in a melancholy black & white, is done in a single take, and shows her facing the camera head on as if she’s singing right to you. When she’s not writing music like this, Giselle helps others through her volunteer work with Alzheimer’s New Jersey and being that it’s National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month; now is a good time to learn more about this dreaded affliction.
“I didn’t know when I would release the song because it was so personal and painful to write. Like the audio, the music video is a one shot take. We wanted the “imperfections” of piano creeks and breaths that are in the audio to be present in the video. ‘Hazy Eyes’ is essentially about pain and regret.” – Giselle
