We did a couple double-takes when we got a first look at the Governors Ball lineup in store for 2017, unveiled just this morning by the folks over at Founders Entertainment. While we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the lineups in years past, the 7th annual fest is clearly not messing around in ‘17, with headliners like Tool, Wu-Tang Clan, Chance The Rapper, Lorde, and many other great names sharing poster space.
Some other standouts we’re looking forward to catching at the Randalls Park fest (June 2nd-4th) are Wiz Khalifa, who delivers an awesome live set; The Avalanches, whose hypnotic, electronic layering is a must-see; Tove Lo, still hot off the October release of Lady Wood; and one of the very best live acts we saw at the Meadows Fest, legendary funk/soul singer Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires.
And that’s barely scratching the surface. In the realm of rock, we’re stoked for the much-loved electro-rock duo, Phantogram, whose newest LP, Three, just made our staff-picked list of Best 2016 Albums – as well as Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand, who brought us catchy tracks like “Take Me Out” and “Do You Want To.” Not to mention one of our all-time favorites, the shred-heavy English rock duo known as Royal Blood, who you really won’t want to miss.
Between Childish Gambino, Charli XCX, Local Natives (who we enjoyed at T5 a few months back), The Head and the Heart, and Bleachers (featuring fun.’s Jack Antonoff), we’re bound to be running in circles to catch all these solid acts. And if that isn’t enough, we get to see another big favorite, Cage the Elephant, who completely rocked out at the Meadows last year. Tickets for Gov Ball 2017 go onsale FRIDAY (tomorrow!) so be sure to snap them up here. We’ll see you this summer!
