On any given weeknight in the LES it can be a crapshoot on what type of crowd you can draw as a young band, but on this Wednesday night Loose Buttons drew a decent audience for their 8pm set at Pianos. Maybe the first three weeks of their residency at the band friendly venue, went so well, that they’ve been gaining fans each week. Or possibly the fact they have a new EP coming tomorrow called Sundays has drummed up interest, but no matter the case the band came to rock, whomever was in front of them.
While their set clocked in at just over 35-minutes, it was filled with chunky riffs, a tremendous rhythm section, and a lead singer who while affable, had a rock-star edge that will lead them far. Highlights of the night were numerous, as all of Loose Buttons’ tunes had a little something to make your head nod in approval, but one of their new songs “Tales Of What I’m Used To” was really killer with its hammering backbeat and urgent lyrics that had the room dancing away.
While all the songs were new to me, after checking the set-list and SoundCloud – their new stuff does stand out as more mature and their new EP should be a nice addition to the year’s offerings thus far.
