We threw a party and it was awesome! On Thursday night we teamed with one of our favorite groups, Smoke Season, and put on a show at Baby’s All Right. The Los Angeles based, New York natives have been on tour for the last month showcasing songs off of their forthcoming album.
Soren Bryce supported Smoke Season with a dreamy and piano-driven set. Her music lies somewhere between breathy electronic, alternative and folk. When she’s backed by melodic drums, like at Baby’s, her voice soars. She performed music off of her self-titled EP (released in August 2015) including the IAMA Award Winning Song “Newport.” Soren Bryce is touring the west coast through mid-October.
Smoke Season followed with an insane set. The duo made up of Jason Rosen and Gabrielle Wortman rotate among haunting and hazy electronic sounds, piercing solos, and manic energy. One moment Rosen is delivering soft backing vocals and then he’s transitioning to a guitar riff in a deep bend. On the other side Wortman is hitting high notes while doing hair flips and jumping off drums. They performed tracks off of their forthcoming album including “Emilia,” an ode to Wortman’s niece, the heartbreaking, “You,” and their most recent single, “Good Days.” The whole crowd needed a whiskey (and maybe some pancakes) to manage the come down from their set. Thankfully Smoke Season closed with the mellow “Opaque.” Keep an eye out for the new album by following them here.
