Bay area native Toro y Moi (Chaz Bear) is an artist who can’t be put into a box. He defies genre, or frankly, comparison to others, so it’s no wonder his set last week in Boston felt similar. At House Of Blues, an eager crowd was met with a little bit of everything. Super minimal stage setup, just a small lighting rig and riser for the band, Toro y Moi tore through his set.
Songs ranged from the more mainstream funky “Ordinary Pleasure” to the more ambient dancy “Rose Quartz” and his every genre from EDM and ambient to R&B and alt rock. The one consistent throughout? The crowd was vibing and dancing every step of the way. Toro y Moi isn’t an artist who requires a lot of stage production to put on his show. It’s just damn good music to lift up the crowd.
