DON’T BE A SCHMUCK – AT LEAST GIVE THEM A DECENT BOTTLE FOR CHRISTMAS

OK, it’s not too late to whip off to a local bottle shop and get that last minute bottle of booze for the not-quite-as-special someone on your list. Just admit it – maybe you forgot, the dog ate your homework, whatever. But you’ve still got time to fix it! Check out these bottles under $50 – relatively easy on your budget and looks good in your guilt-ridden hand. It’s a win-win!

Bloody Butcher by Widow Jane- not only is it made locally in Brooklyn, but the name is perfect for the recipient that you’re not *quite* completely enamored with. And look – a gift set. That makes it completely perfect! (sorry, the gift set isn’t under $50, but you can just get a bottle, too).

Sorel by Jack from Brooklyn.  Yes, yes, I know it’s not whiskey (it’s a hibiscus liqueur from a traditional Jamaican recipe), but it’s so tasty and mixes so well with whiskey, that I have to include it. Plus, Jack is an actual person  – and an awesome actual person. Stop by the distillery, you might catch him there. You’re welcome.

Angel’s Envy is a great bourbon, especially if you like the person you still need a gift for. Smooth, in a bottle that looks nice on their bar. The Henderson family has a long tradition of making whiskey (from master distiller and dad, Lincoln Henderson’s guidance), so it stands to reason this would be a great whiskey.

If your forgotten gift recipient is a Scotch fan, I like Glenmorangie La Santa for this list. I’m just getting into Scotch (I’ve tasted through most of the big names) and this is one of my favorites so far.

To round out the list, I’ve been a fan of Jameson 12 year for well, years. A quick Jameson lesson: the “regular” stuff you see at your local bar is aged 5 years. This is the next step in their aging. The Gold Reserve is really awesome, but that doesn’t fit in the “under $50 category” (it’s about $75), so we’ll stick with the 12 year this time, which is still quite good!

What are you waiting for?  Time is already short – get out there and get a bottle for your mostly-kinda-special person!  Cheers and happy holidays!
