Monday – James Bay – Bowery Ballroom – This young, talented singer-songwriter has found his way on many ‘Can’t Miss Acts at SXSW’ lists, including Billboard’s. Give his recently released single “Move Together” a listen, to hear what you’ve been missing out on.
Monday – Toy Cities – Palisades – I love how full and energetic this Brooklyn indie-rock band’s sound is, which is not an easy sonic feat to accomplish as a trio. Their 2014 album Via Death is a perfect snapshot of where indie rock is today, especially in Brooklyn.
Monday – Laura Welsh – Le Poisson Rouge – This incredible vocal vixen can be found somewhere between Adele, Banks, and Florence Welch. Her brilliant singing can even be heard in the 50 Shades of Grey, as her single “Undiscovered” made the cut onto the film’s soundtrack.
Tuesday – St. Patrick’s Day Parade– 5th Ave – Is there a better excuse to call out of work Tuesday than the annual St. Paddy’s Day parade? We think not! Head out and grab yourself some liquid breakfast (whiskey) and then head over to 5th Ave to catch the parade.
Wednesday – Air Bag One – Baby’s All Right – In the middle of a US tour, this indie-elecro band all the way from Cameroon fucking Africa is taking a few nights to play NYC. Needing an excuse to go dancing this week? Head to Baby’s and get off with these guys.
Thursday – Julia Haltigan – Mercury Lounge – First met this soul rocker in the dressing room at SubCulture during an interview the night she was opening up for Aaron Lee Tasjan. Her smoky vocals and seductive songwriting made for a great evening of music, so I expect the same again this time at Mercury.
Thursday – Howth – Muchmore’s – Somewhere between Lord Huron and Iron & Wine, you’ll find Howth. I guess you could throw Fleet Foxes in there too but I’d hate to make things too confusing and just let their music do the talking.
Friday – Nat Osborn Band – Rough Trade – Friday night in Williamsburg, why not add some soul and groove in your step with a very modern sounding, Billy Joel performer, in Nat Osborn.
Saturday – Cary Brothers – Irving Plaza –A favorite of Zach Braff, you’ve heard Cary’s music in Scrubs and Garden State, and other indie films for sure. Even if you aren’t into the headliner (Joshua Radin) or that kind of music, you have to enjoy the songwriting on his 2007 album Who You Are. Expect some of the favorites from there to make their way into the set.
Saturday – Surf Rock Is Dead – Rough Trade –Brand new band, Surf Rock is Dead also known as SRiD will be bringing their summer vibes to Rough Trade this Saturday making us long for those warm summer nights.
Saturday – Johanna Samuels – Shea Stadium – A young mix of Missy Higgins and Ingrid Michaelson, Johanna also adds some Americana influences to her music. Still somewhat new to the scene and undiscovered, there’s plenty of room for music lovers to find her.
