Ain’t no party like a bacon party. Seriously, we were so stoked to attend The Great Big Bacon Picnic last weekend at the Old Pfizer Building in Williamsburg. It was a tough job but we worked our way through what seemed like an endless selection of bacon treats, fresh brews and craft spirits concoctions. Highlights, in terms of grub, included the homemade smoked bacon stuffed oreos from Urbo (winner of Judge’s Award for creativity), the Vietnamese bacon sliders from BBD’s (winner of Judge’s Awards for both creativity and presentation) and ALL OF THE BURGERS from Ottomanelli’s. In terms of drink, we loved the crispness of Original Sin’s Apple Cider and their Apricot Cider. New York Distilling Co.’s gin gimlet was the freshest thing we’ve had this spring. And we couldn’t help but get all fan-girl for the old fashioned egg creams made with the classic U-Bet chocolate syrup and spiked with Bakon Vodka, even if it tasted a little, well, peculiar.
We easily could have eaten ourselves into a bacon food coma, but luckily the High & Mighty Brass Band added pure energy to the scene with their N’awlins style jams.
We’ve had two days to recover from our bacon hangover and are already looking forward to the next Great Big Bacon Picnic.
