We had the opportunity to speak with the dynamic brother and sister duo – Angus And Julia Stone, before their set at Governors Ball. We happily accepted the invite with the chill Aussies, here’s how their quick interview and show went down.

Angus And Julia Stone are a brother and sister act from Australia. They have recently blown up and for good reason; they are diverse in their musicianship, good looking and are genuinely nice people. Touring on their self-titled, critically acclaimed 2014 release, the fair winds brought them to Randalls Island for Governors Ball on Saturday June 6th.

Welcome to Governors Ball, where have your travels brought you lately?

Julia – In New York in LA, back and forth just hangin’ out.

Since your playing a big festival are there any bands or artists you’re excited to check out today?

Julia – I’d like to catch Ryan Adams and Future Islands.

Angus – Bjork!

What’s your plans for the summer?

Angus – We’re off to Europe to do the summer festivals so we’ll be touring for the summer.

In a dream scenario; If you could have any performer join your set today who would it be?

Julia – Neil Young with an electric guitar solo would be fuckin sweet, just come and shred ya know?

Do you have any plans for new music in the next year?

Angus – We’re gonna sit down in a couple months, I have a little studio at my farm, we have no real idea what it will be but see what happens around August try to make a record.

Are there new songs in your live set?

Angus- We’ve got songs we’ve put in for sure, it just depends when to bring them out. Festivals you play songs you’re familiar with since sometime there’s no soundcheck and the fans want to hear what they know.

Since we are Pancakes And Whiskey, do you have a favorite whiskey?

Angus – Laphroaig

Julia doesn’t drink whiskey, but we forgive her.

You’re in NYC, it’s late night and you’re hungry – Pizza or Hot-Dogs?

Julia – I’d definitely go with pizza over a hot-dog

Angus – I like Mexican

When you come to NYC is there something you look forward to doing, seeing or hearing?

Julia – I think NYC is great for food, ya know? There’s so many different restaurants and cafe’s…I think growing up in Australia you get spoiled for food and some parts of America it’s so hard to find good shit. NYC you can go somewhere different every day of the year.

After getting to meet the Stone siblings, I made sure to catch their set at the Honda stage mid-afternoon. Their set was gorgeous, and full of harmony. Musically they were tight and had a nice alternative folk-rock vibe to it. Being that I had other appointments, I could only stay for a handful of songs, but I really fell in love with them and now need to find some vinyl of theirs to spin.
