PANCAKE PICKS: BEST SHOWS OF THE WEEK FOR 8-24-15

It’s that time of year were we ask ourselves: What the fuck just happened to the summer? It always goes by too quick, right? Soon enough the leaves will drop, the air will turn unfriendly and we will all be bitching about snow. Luckily, we still have a solid month of good weather to enjoy yet, so take a peek at our Pancake Picks below, to help set your musical schedule this week.

Monday

Sun Club @ Palisades – Get ready to kick your week off with Sun Club coming in hot! Palisades will be the first stop on a four-month national tour and sharing dates with The Districts as the indie band from Baltimore gears up for the release of their EP The Dongo Durango in late October.

Pony Boy @ Rockwood Stage 2 – Do you love Mazzy Star and Cowboy Junkie? Pony Boy brings an electrifying blend of country and indie, and she’ll be in town just ahead of the release of her full-length debut album Blue Gold.

Tuesday

New Myths @ Elvis Guesthouse – One of the better indie/new wave bands in the NYC scene and no stranger to playing P&W parties, the girls take on a new venue with the same old killer jams.

Wednesday

AC/DC @ MetLife Stadium – One of classic rock’s last remaining bands still touring, Angus and the gang look to raise some hell in the Meadowlands. Even with Malcom no longer with the gang and Phil Rudd on Australia’s most wanted list, they still know how to rock.

Thursday

Alex Winston @ Rocks Off Concert Cruise – Another chance to enjoy one of NYC’s summer spoils before temps begin to dip, take an end of the week cruise with Alex Winston as she’ll lay down the perfect indie-pop soundtrack for a night out on the open sea.

Biz Markie @ Brooklyn Bowl –  “Yo Moms so poor, that she went to McDonalds and put a shake on layaway.” If you like a little humor and self-defacing lyrics in your hip-hop, Biz Markie will give you what you need.

Friday

Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers @ Bowery BallroomCurrently on a summer/fall tour in support of their recent release, Loved Wild Lost, NB & The G’s sound could be described as either Americana folk-rock, or even alternative-country. However you’d like to label it, Nicki’s talent has earned her stage time with some of music’s best, including Warren Haynes, Phil Lesh, Grace Potter, The Avett Brothers, and more.

Saturday

Cold Fronts @ Riis Park Beach Bazaar – Have you gotten a chance to see a concert at the beach yet? Summer is almost over so get to Riis Park Bazaar for a killer outdoor show with this indie-pop band from Philly.

Houndstooth @ Rough Trade – Portland is one of those super interesting cities that everyone wants to visit but a little too far out there for a trip from NYC. Houndstooth brings the party to you with their equally interesting very chill folk-based indie sound. If they can make the 3k mile trip to Rough Trade than so can you.

Sunday

Ellen Winter @ Pete’s Candy Store – Think Missy Higgins meets Sara Bareilles, with this young pianist/singer who brings a feel-good style to her fast singing and smooth playing style of pop.
