Imagine going to a show and feeling like you’re at a celebrity party, like you’re on vacation with all the VIP’s! That was the vibe I got from the Island Records/Marriott Rewards concert in New York City on September 8th. The minute you walked in you were greeted with smiles and glow in the dark sunglasses. I predicted there would be screaming fangirls, which there was on every corner of the venue. However, the night was still full of surprises.
The crowd went wild for Shawn Mendes and Nick Jonas who both were so exciting to watch. I could immediately see what all the hype was about with Shawn. He walked on stage with just an acoustic guitar and had every single person in Best Buy Theatre’s attention. The girls and boys in the front row didn’t care if they would be needing stitches after the show from all the pushing and shoving, because they were that supportive and dedicated to the seventeen year old superstar. As for Nick, I haven’t seen him live since his Jonas Brothers days, but he is still without a doubt “off the chain!” He’s got the dance moves, cool boy swagger and runs and riffs for days. The two heartthrobs were joined at the event by DJ Ansolo (Aka Ansel Elgort) [heart eyes emjoi], Kiesza, American Authors, Timeflies and Keke Palmer – the host for the night, who sang an a cappella version of K-Ci & JoJo’s “All My Life,” to try and get the crowd relaxed and distracted from continuing to trample one another to get to the front.
Also in attendance at the party were Jack Johnson and Jack Gilinsky from Jack & Jack, Joey Badass, Madison Beer, Eric Wong (the executive vice president/general manager of the label), and David Massey, president of Island Records who celebrated his birthday that night. Now that’s how you throw a memorable birthday party, bravo!
