THE KNOCKS AND CARDIKNOX ELECTRIFY BABY'S ALL RIGHT

Baby’s All Right has become one of the more underrated music venues in NYC. Its smaller 280-capacity size makes it less appealing for larger artists who could play Bowery Ballroom or Brooklyn Bowl size venues. Apparently no one told Baby’s, as the chic and trendy vibe of the restaurant/concert venue has slowly turned another Brooklyn venue into the go-to for artists who are wanting to trade away the ambience of the Music Halls for a more intimate and energy filled show. Indie-pop powerhouses Courtney Barnett, Hot Chip, Mac Demarco all played ridiculous shows at Baby’s in 2015, and kicking off the new year, electronic bands Cardiknox and The Knocks made sure that the venue would continue to host electrifying shows at the venue.

Opening up for The Knocks on their winter tour across the U.S., Los Angeles indie-elecro duo, Cardiknox, set the dance tone for the night their catchy, ambient style of electronic pop. Their colorful music was topped only by the array of colorful designs on singer Lonnie Angle’s white spandex pants and Addidas tank. Both key members Angle and Thomas Dutton (guitar/keys/vocals) put forth a very impressive opening set, adding fuel to their fire from the chemistry they’ve developed via their live show.

Their mix of modern pop with 80s electronic gives the band that perfect electro-pop flavor that’s taking over the airwaves these days. While the band has yet to release their debut album, their set consisted of catchy, up-tempo singles including “Shadowboxing,” “On My Way,” “Wild Child,” and the band’s new single, a very St. Lucia-esque “Into The Night.”

By the time The Knocks took the stage, the capacity crowd was ready to dance, which the duo tastefully obliged. The NYC duo has perfected their mix of funk, disco, and EDM, and their set reflected it right from the start. The band charged right into “Brightside,” “Comfortable,” “Dancing With Myself.”

Of course what’s a NYC show without some special guests? The duo was joined on stage throughout the set including Matthew Koma, who sings on the band’s single, “I Wish (My Taylor Swift)” and the incredible Alex Newell for “Collect My Love.” The highlight of the night came towards the end of the set when Wyclef Jean, who sings on “Kiss The Sky,” which will surely be a single on their upcoming album, joined the band on stage.
