SAVOIR ADORE PLAY A SWEATY BABY'S ALL RIGHT

Inside the sold out, intensely hot Baby’s All Right on Wednesday, fans had no problems sweating out a few pounds while dancing, or even just standing around, to Savoir Adore’s first show back after a year-long hiatus. In what’s been an unusually warm week for New Yorkers in the first few days of February, things weren’t much different indoors and the room was blasting hot from body head and electricity from fantastic performances by the Savoir Adore as well as up and coming Australian indie-pop band Tigertown.

I’m not sure what’s in the water in Australia these days, but whatever it is, incredible indie-rock/indie-pop bands are being pumped out of there like 1960s London. Signed to the very hot Neon Gold here in the U.S., the band made up of husband and wife, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, put out an impressive set full of electronic and guitar mixed indie-pop songs off their debut EP, Lonely Cities, which comes out in the U.S. on Friday. While the band will be labeled as ‘pop’, there was something incredibly organic and pure on a garage-rock level with this band.

Tigertown’s ability to make their songs a real performance and take shape in a live setting as a pulsating indie-rock song truly impressed the audience. Hat’s off to Tigertown and Neon Gold for discovering and creating another band that proves pop music doesn’t have to feel like an auto-tuned, manufactured experience. The band will be touring with the very popular St. Lucia and other Neon Gold label mates throughout the spring here in the U.S.

Savoir Adore caught a lot of attention following their debut album Our Nature, which came out summer 2013. Since then, Lauren Zettler, whom you may recognize from another very popular local band, Panama Wedding, has also joined in on the fun on keys and vocals, replacing founding member Deidre Muro. The band gave everyone something to look forward to for 2016 with their electrifying set, coming right out the gate with the new single, followed by older fan favorites “Bodies” and “Beating Hearts,” and “Loveliest Creature”- the last of which gave Zettler her first chance to take front and center with the band and she didn’t disappoint in each chorus and especially during the chorus which gives her and fellow frontman/guitar player Paul Hammer their own indie version of Stevie and Lindsey moment.

“This is by far the sweatiest show we’ve ever played, and we’re only three songs in,” Hammer said with a laugh while catching his breath before diving headfirst into some of the new material including “Devotion” and “Savages,” both of which carry their own weight on moving the band forward into new frontiers of what they’re capable of creatively. As the band went further down the rabbit hole with performances of the very popular singles “Regalia” and “Dreamers,” it seemed that the hotter the room got, the better the performance sounded. Not a bad way for the band to re-launch with what should be a big year for them.

Savoir Adore is on everyone’s 2016 watch lists, including St. Lucia, who was also in the audience. The band released a new single in “Lovers Awake” last week and will be joining fellow Brooklyn alt-rockers X Ambassadors on a U.S. tour starting in March. Look for their next full-length release coming possibly late spring or early summer.
