BAG RAIDERS THROW A DANCE PARTY AT THE BOWERY BALLROOM

The memories I have with Bowery Ballroom are priceless, so I jumped at the chance to see one of my favorite bands, Bag Raiders at Bowery Ballroom. While I was waiting for a drink at the second floor bar, I couldn’t help but reminiscence my mischievous adventures at the Bowery. One of my all time faves was sneaking in to see We Are Scientists rehearsing, lying to the security and then being kicked out of the rehearsals until it was time for the show. Saturday night was extra special because I got to see two of my favorite bands, Bag Raiders and Plastic Plates, both hailing from Australia which I’ve got to say; has been really generous with sharing some very talented artists with us.

Fellow Aussie, Plastic Plates, began the show and was enjoyable throughout the entire set. Peeking through the crowd, you can see people slowly, but surely warming up to Plates as he played drums while the backing tracks played. Plastic Plates is the alias name of Felix Bloxsom, who has been associated with big names like Sia, Sneaky Sound System, Sam Sparro, etc. Having heard of him through another favorite dj of mine, Bufi, who remixed “Things I Didn’t Know I Loved,” I knew I was getting myself into the ultimate dance party and Plastic Plates definitely did not disappoint.

As we patiently waited and refilled our drinks, Bowery Ballroom went dark and the crowd began shouting with pure joy and excitement. Bag Raiders appeared onstage in all white; and funny enough Plastic Plates was covering the drums for them as well. Not only does it show that they’re awesome friends, but that they support each other as band mates.

They’re touring North America in support of their new record “Friend Inside,” which is full of infectious dance tunes that will have anyone dancing. They played several oldies, but goodies like “Shooting Stars,” “Way Back Home” and “Sunlight.”

I think it’s amazing when you’re at the front, and the crowd is so into the show dancing and singing along and you bond through those moments. You get to enjoy those amazing moments in between those songs that you love. In the midst of having so much fun I was able to catch, well fight for the drummer’s towel. (Sorry Jenna)! As long as you’re having a great time, that’s really all that matters.
