Jazz-rock legends Steely Dan played The Capitol Theater Tuesday night. It was the second night of their “The Dan Who Knew Too Much” Tour. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, played hits spanning their entire career, starting back in 1972.
Hits like “Aja,” “Hey Nineteen,” “Josie,” “Peg” and “Reelin’ in the Years” were sandwiched between instrumental covers of Donald Byrd & Booker Little’s “November Afternoon” and Nelson Riddle’s “The Untouchables.”
Westchester native, Becker handled the band introductions during a cover of Joe Tex’s “I Want To (Do Everything for You),” calling them “the best Steely Dans” ever. The crowd was somewhat boisterous, yelling out to the band, prompting Fagen to call the Westchester crowd as “goofy” as Becker was when he grew up there.
The Dan will be back in the area this summer on tour with Steve Winwood.
