After a five-year hiatus, Love in October drops a remarkable four-song EP, Love in October III, that captures the frenetic energy in the air this season. Letting their songwriting experience work for them, Swedish brothers Erik and Kent Widman took the no-frills approach for this release—two guitars, two amps, one synth—and challenged themselves to write, produce, and record all in the span of just two weeks.
They went into the studio with ten basic ideas that they spliced and diced into these four polished, turbocharged tracks. “We really enjoyed working in this quick and spontaneous format,” says bassist Kent Widman. “I think we’ll stick to this kind of recording format in the future as it forces us to be creative on the spot and make quick decisions. It becomes more of a snapshot of where we currently are in our lives.”
The boys’ penchant for technology—one is a web developer and the other is a PhD advancing medical technology—is evident, driving their music to test the boundaries of sound and space. Blending digitized beats with intensely indie vocals, the resulting EP is fresh and clean, upbeat without being over the top, approachable but innovative.
