Don’t let the fall weather deceive you; the summer concert season is far from over. In fact, NYC seems to be exploding with good shows over the next few weeks. Get to the best ones with our Pancake Picks for best shows of the week – starting with tonight!
Monday
The Griswolds @ Rough Trade – The Griswolds, the four-piece indie rock outfit from Sydney, Australia, are hitting Brooklyn tonight for a performance at Rough Trade. They just released their newest single, “Out Of My Head,” last month, and are sure to bring a good live show to the record store/venue.
Tuesday
St. Lucia @ Terminal 5 – Guess what? If you can’t catch St. Lucia on Tuesday at Terminal 5, you’ve got another shot at T5 on Wednesday too! And if you’re into indie/synthpop, you’ll definitely want to catch one of them.
Blind Pilot @ MHOW – Portland indie folk band Blind Pilot are pulling a similar trick – playing Music Hall of Williamsburg on both Tuesday and Wednesday! Expect to hear some stuff from their newest full-length record, released last month, And Then Like Lions.
Wednesday
Ages and Ages @ Rough Trade – Another Portland-based band are joining this week’s Picks, with Ages and Ages playing Rough Trade this Wednesday. Their distinct choral pop sound is worth catching live – especially with their new LP, Something To Ruin, having been released just last month.
Glass Animals @ Terminal 5 – Oxford indietronica band Glass Animals are playing Terminal 5 this Wednesday (and Thursday!) and are sure to bring a good crowd. We’re looking forward to catching up with them before the show this week, so check back for our interview!
Thursday
Explosions in the Sky @ Terminal 5 – Texas post-rock band Explosions in the Sky are playing T5 this Wednesday, and with the recent release of their new record, The Wilderness, it’s the perfect time to go see ’em. They’re also playing Kings Theatre on Friday if you can’t make it on Wednesday.
Wilco @ Rough Trade – The much-loved Chicago alt-rockers known as Wilco are playing Rough Trade on Thursday night. Their newest LP, Schmilco, came out just a few weeks ago, so you can be one of the first to hear some of it live.
Friday
The Kills @ Terminal 5 – Garage rock duo The Kills, who have been making music together since 2000, are another great act coming to T5 this week – just a few months after the release of their new full-length album, Ash & Ice.
Wild Child @ MHOW – Austin-based indie 6-piece Wild Child are making their way to NYC! You can hear what they’ve been up to lately at the Music Hall of Williamsburg this Friday.
Saturday
The Great Big Bacon Picnic @ The Old Pfizer Factory – If you want to see us passed out in the bushes at any point on Saturday/Sunday, you know where we’ll be! Come eat waaaay too much with us at the Great Big Bacon Picnic this weekend.
Julien Baker @ MHOW – Julien Baker was on fire as she made her way around the festival circuit with her incredibly-personal style of songwriting and adept guitar playing this summer. It will be a nice treat to see her in a comfortable room at the music hall where she will make us feel all the feels.
Sunday
Concert Across America to End Gun Violence @ Beacon Theatre – Finish off a great week with a great cause and head to the Concert Across America to End Gun Violence, taking place at the Beacon Theatre this Sunday. The lineup includes Eddie Vedder, Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash, Marc Cohn, and Harlem’s Gospel for Teens, and the rest of the event looks excellent as well.
