Andy Clutterbuck and James Hatcher, who perform as the electronic duo, HONNE, have been selling out shows across America. Their chilled-out, soulfulness adds an interesting layer to traditional electronic music. On Wednesday night, HONNE returned to New York and owned the smoke-filled stage at Warsaw.
One-man band, Max Frost opened for HONNE. During his set, the Austin, TX native, rotated through playing the piano, drums, bass and at times two guitars. His lively performance combined folk, pop, rock and R&B, which was evidenced by his playful rendition of OutKast’s “Roses.” Frost closed with “White Lies,” an electronic-pop song about his woman sending him “sketch vibes” and the realization that she’s cheating on him.

After Frost exited the lights went dark and smoke flooded the room. When the purples and blues flicked on to announce HONNE’s arrival, hundreds of phones in the crowd went up to start recording. The pair performed tracks off of their debut album, Warm On A Cold Night, which was released this summer. The slow-build of “One At A Time Please” seduces while discomfort unravels in the lyrics. A slow sway in the crowd developed as Clutterbuck sang “you wanna give me/ a taste of celebrity/ I can’t help but find that funny/ cause that’s not who I am.”

Clutterbuck and Hatcher play with a warmth that consumes. They’re personable, humble and happy sharing a moment with fans. While performing “Someone That Loves You” Clutterbuck made you feel like he was singing only to you. “It Ain’t Wrong Loving You” was another crowd favorite. HONNE is on tour in the United States through mid-October before heading back to the United Kingdom.
