Bands from Portland, OR and Corona, CA show Brooklyn what it means to party like a punk star. Mean Jeans, with the help of Melted, tore up Alphaville in Bushwhick Saturday night leaving the venue a steamy, smelly mess.
Melted, the California band fronted by Justin Eckley, revved up the crowd with their thrash punk style. Within seconds of their first song, heads were banging and hair was flying both on stage and off. Shortly into their set, Justin broke a guitar string. “Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t play a guitar with only 5 strings,” he said to the crowd then quickly broke a second string. With a speedy swap of guitars the show was back to it’s high energy output till the last note was played. Then a temporary stillness took place as the band changeover began.

Moments before the set was to begin, the crowd filled into the small back room of Alphaville. Bodies butted up against the edge of the stage, everyone poised ready for the moment when they could completely lose themselves to the fast and loud party-punk music of Mean Jeans. With the first “whoa oh oh oh oooh” of Croozin’ the crowd erupted into a blurry mess. Bodies mashed together and fists pumped into the air and did not stop until the very last song. The band and the crowd seemed to meld together united by their intense energy. Beer was thrown into the air and sweat dripped down faces as everyone screamed out the lyrics to crowd favorites such as Born on a Saturday Night and Anybody Out There.

Just past the venue’s curfew, it was clear that everyone wanted to party on so the band defiantly snuck in one more song. The reluctant crowd was then forced to leave the steamy backroom closing out one highly energetic evening.
