Brooklyn trio Darling Din, named by Deli Magazine as Best Emerging Artist of the Year released their five song debut EP August 9th and those surveying the indie world could not be more excited.
Darlin Din formerly knows as So So Apropos, is not only exceptionally talented musically but artistically and in a poetic sense as well. Taking a deeper peek into their musical entity, it can be deduced from their wise and emotionally aware lyrics, varied sound (one moment soft and atmospheric and the next moment a terrifying storm of heartbreak) quirky and political collage artwork, and thoughtful heart wrenching and inspiring blog entries that Darling Din is truly innovative and original.
I mean any band that can record their debut EP in two days has to be genius.(And that is exactly what they did at Retromedia Sound Studio in NJ with the exquisite help of engineer and mixer Jason Cummings of The Cutting Room.
In conjunction with their online EP release on the 9th they also performed their newest material from their EP at The Gutter in Williamsburg, accompanied by their favorite bands Ugly Ugly Words + Kahli Abdu and Make/Believe. At their show at The Gutter, Darling Din sold a limited run of 100 physical cds featuring unique collage art covers handcrafted by Darling Din themselves.
The digital album cover is a tribute to lead singer and guitarist Lisa Jaeggi’s father, who passed away in May of this year- a subject bravely expressed in the EP’s lyrics. Notable tracks on the EP are “Killing to be Bright”, “Like a Cat Picks a Bone”, and “Bad Heart”. The combination of Amir Landa’s “war siren” and Sharon Raizer’s soft vocals complimenting the lamenting graceful echos from Jaeggi make for an unforgettable EP.
