STRAND OF OAKS GET PERSONAL AT THE ROCK AND ROLL HOTEL

As I am walking into the Rock and Roll Hotel for a little pre game activities who should I run into, Tim Showalter, lead singer of Strand of Oaks. Tim always greets you with a huge and infectious smile that makes you feel like you just ran into an old friend you haven’t seen in years. Tim is by far one of the most righteous lead singers I’ve ever had the opportunity to meet. One thing Tim truly enjoys is interacting with all is his fans. The same thing can be said about the entire band. Jason Anderson, lead guitarist, who will text to remind me of upcoming shows, Djim Reynolds, Bassist and fellow photo enthusiast and Mike Sneeringer, master of drums.

Stand of Oaks opened up the set with “Taking Acid and Talking to My Brother.” A very deep and emotional song about Tim’s brother who was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy a few years ago. Strand went into “Kraut” and instrumental jam that you literally just get lost in. “Radio Kids” is a song off of their most recent album Hard Love that literally makes you daydream of younger days and putting your big old headphones in your bedroom and jamming to the radio. Strand then went into “Shut in” and “Heal” off of their album Heal. Two amazing songs that everyone that has gone through tough times can truly relate personally with. Next on the set list was “On the Hill,” written about a personal experience Tim had is another get lost in the moment tune that will have you dancing both mentally and physically. “Plymouth,” another slow jam with deep roots that trace back to Plymouth, Indiana, a town near Tim’s home town of Goshen, Indiana.”

“Sometimes I move like shadows, sometimes I move like the wind, but most days I start where I begin.” – Such a hypnotic tune! Strand went on to play “Everything” or “E-Thang” per the set list Tim wrote out on a paper plate and “Rest of it.” Two more hard hitting tunes from “Hard Love”. As the night came to end, “JM” and Goshen ’97” rocked the hell out of the crowd as we all sang along!
