My ears perked up when I first heard the pop/indie sound of Alvvays way back when I heard their self-titled debut in 2014. Now, fresh off their release, Antisocialites, the Canadian five-piece descended onto the stage at Brooklyn Steel, which is becoming one of my favorite venues for live music here in NY.
Shrouded in darkness and lit only by various projected images, the band eased into their set with little to no banter. The music urged the crowd on, ebbing and flowing with the changing tempos in “Saved By A Waif,” to “Adult Diversion,” then into “In Undertow.” Lead singer Molly Rankin’s vocals floated effortlessly over each track, churning the band’s eager fans into a frenzy.
The band is just kicking off their tour, which runs right into 2018, so be sure to get out and see them when the chance arises.
