ELBOW BRING EFFORTLESS LAYERS OF SOUND TO TERMINAL 5

If you walked into Terminal 5 Thursday night, you may have mistaken it for Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall. Effortless layers of sound poured out of the double doors making it seem like the venue housed five orchestras instead of a rock band. The English group, Elbow, made its return to Terminal 5 and presented its newest installment to New York City fans.

Lead singer, Guy Garvey took the stage first to welcome the crowd and introduce the soft-spoken Scottish composer, C Duncan. Christopher “C” Duncan is the son of two classical musicians. Their influence is evident in his blending of modern and contemporary music with his classical foundation. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays both the keyboard and guitar on stage. During the set, C Duncan performed songs off of his Mercury-nominated album, Architect.

At 8:45pm on the dot, Elbow took the stage. Backed by a Greek chorus of singers and percussionists, the foursome was welcomed back to New York City by adoring fans. Garvey, with complete humility, thanked the crowd for coming to see them and opened with “New York Morning.” The crowd waited almost all night for elbow’s most-notable anthem, “One Day Like This.” They closed with an encore performance of “Lippy Kids” and “Grounds for Divorce.”

Elbow has been around since the early 1990s and released its seventh studio album, Little Fictions, earlier this year. Like most of their music, Little Fictions is emotionally charged and effortless.
