Forest Hills Stadium, the 1923-built venue in Queens, NY hailed for its rich acoustics, is welcoming a new type of sonic experience this summer thanks to English indie rockers Alt-J. Not only will this upcoming concert mark one of the biggest venues the band has headlined in North America, but it will reportedly be the only “immersive sound show” on the entire continent, leveraging a surround speaker system that will envelop the whole audience. Mark your calendar for June 15th, because the recent announcement also revealed their special guest for the show, composer and saxophonist Kamasi Washington.
According to the press release, the surrounding speakers “will be used throughout the show to position sound effects mixed into a variety of the band’s material, thus creating an immersive sound experience.” In another cool twist, all tickets for the show will be General Admission, including floor and bowl, so that fans can soak up the spectacle from every angle. Alt-J, who just released their third studio album, Relaxer, last year, have repeatedly topped the U.K. charts and earned a big following for their eclectic sound, so the band and venue couldn’t be a better fit for the concept.
Presale starts today (1/30) and tickets for the show are available here.
