ALL THINGS GO FALL CLASSIC

Saturday was for the girls. The Capital was reeling after Judge Kavanaugh was confirmed to the United States Supreme Court. Protests broke out throughout DC and people marched with posters mourning the death of our nation. What better way to come together and celebrate differences and women than to watch an all-female lineup destroy the stage on Saturday at All Things Go Fall Classic.

The two-day classic at Washington, DC’s Union Market was curated by Lizzy Plapinger (LPX) and Maggie Rogers. Saturday featured an all-female lineup of Maggie Rogers, Billie Eilish, Jessie Reyez, Ravyn Lenae, LPX, ALMA, OSHUN and KAYE. Ravyn Lenae played a rhythmic and whimsical set. She made the crowd pinky-promise they would move during her set- a promise which was virtually impossible to break. She floated across the stage delivering poetics and harmonies like a fairy godmother.

Jessie Reyez followed with an impassioned performance. She started the set slowly, draped in red light and a baseball cap and then launched into tracks like “Figures” and “Apple Juice.” After she recounted a story about a label-head telling her she had to sleep with people in order to be a successful artist, she played “Gatekeeper.” She wasn’t done there- Reyez admitted she was still pissed and had the crowd form a circle pit so everyone could get their anger out while she played “F*** Being Friends.” After the set, Jessie Reyez hung on the side stage to watch Billie Eilish.

Billie Eilish had the stage rattling with her pounding beats and haunting lyrics. The sixteen-year-old was met by shrieks from the crowd for the better part of her first song. She performed hit tracks “Bellyache” and “idontwannabeyouanymore.” Throughout the set Billie danced and jumped across the stage while swinging her blue hair. Maggie Rogers closed the first night of All Things Go. The Maryland singer, who became famous after releasing her first single “Alaska,” put together an evocative set full of emotion and imagery. She performed “On and Off” and “Dog Years.”

Sunday brought the heat and the boys. The second day featured music by FootsXColes, snny, The Aces, Cautious Clay, Two Feet, Betty Who, Misterwivesand Carly Rae Jepsen. The Aces are the quintessential girl band. Similar to HAIM, but grittier, the foursome is straight bad ass. They played tracks off of their debut album, When My Heart Felt Volcanic, which was released earlier this year and their most famous song “Stuck.”

Cautious Clay followed The Aces with a multi-instrument performance. The Brooklyn-based artist, may still be considered “up and coming,” but he has the stage presence of a seasoned-artist. He is smooth and lets the music unfold for listeners as he delivers each song. Cautious Clay performed “Blood Type” and “Cold War.” Two Feet took the stage next. He layers electronic music with soul, guitar and blues to create a deep and emotive sound. His set included hit songs, “I Feel Like I’m Drowning” and “Go Fuck Yourself.”
