ALANIS MORISSETTE SHINES BRIGHT AT MOHEGAN SUN

When you think of women in rock of the mid-90s, there are few who won’t immediately think of Alanis Morissette’s iconic angsty album Jagged Little Pill. The chart topping album was everywhere for a while and for good reason as it’s an iconic release from that era. While it’s been twenty-three years since that album came out, you wouldn’t think a moment had passed the way Alanis brought the Mohegan Sun Arena to their feet on Saturday night and kept them there during the entire show.

From the start, Ms. Morissette flew on stage wailing on her harmonica for her opening number of “All I Really Want.” She rarely slowed down for the whole evening whether playing the harmonica, the guitar, or just singing. Most of the set was spent alternating through tracks of Jagged Little Pill and tracks from her lesser known albums such as “Woman Down” from her most recent album Havoc and Bright Lights and “Everything” from So-Called Chaos.

The energy from the crowd was absolutely electric throughout the night and that was definitely shown through in Ms. Morissette’s performance. Her vocals alone were incredible with the singer having to pull the microphone arm’s length from her face due to the power in her voice. At times she let the crowd take over some of the bigger songs and smiled in awe at how loud the crowd was. Considering she doesn’t tour as much these days it definitely seemed genuine that she was blown away by the reaction she was getting.

The crowd was treated to a rare two song encore after Alanis and her very talented band ripped through her fifteen song set. It seems that the demand of the mostly female audience was more than enough to warrant it. If you have the chance to see at any point she tours, please go. It was a thrill to see someone so clearly in love with music and performing shine so bright on stage.
