LUCY DACUS IS SENSATIONAL AT WHITE EAGLE HALL

Fenne Lily came across the Atlantic from the UK to open this tour for Lucy Dacus. The Bristol based singer/songwriter together with her bandmate Joe gave us a taste from her debut album Hold On which came out in April of 2018, as well as some brand new, never played to an audience selection of songs. Between the tunes we got some insight into the stories behind her music which included some great sex with awful people, people offering to chew her food for her because of her wisdom teeth, and her five dollar panic tipping in New Jersey coffee shops. An incredible talent who brought the jam packed room to full attention instantly.

Mal Blum are an Anti-Folk / Punk band from NYC. They blasted through a quick set of songs from their 2015 release You Look A Lot Like Me.
They opened with “Archive,” “Better Go,” and later in their set we heard their brand new single “Things Still Left To Say.” We were let in on a secret that the new album will be out this summer but we are not supposed to tell anyone. Witty stage banter, high energy and solid songs. You can’t ask for much more.

Lucy Dacus has packed out her dates all along this tour and her stop into Jersey City at the fantastic White Eagle Hall was no exception. The night opened with a brand new song which Lucy performed on her own before her band joined her for what would turn out to be an incredible set. Highlights included “Direct Address,” “Green Eyes,” and the outstanding cover “La Vie En Rose” (Edith Piaf). Dacus can shred her way through her guitar as well as pick intricately for those moments where her voice gets the gentlest of compliments. Her songs cut deep and her 2018 album Historian has been her breakthrough from the little clubs in NYC to filling rooms this size. A sensational talent. Her US tour draws to a close and Lucy heads to Australia and New Zealand for some shows in late March into early April. A must see.
